Are you in need of oral surgery but nervous about going through the process? Charpentier Family Dentistry offers oral surgery services in a spa-like atmosphere. We take your mind off being at the dentist’s with our comfort menu and friendly chairside manner.
Our dental professionals can perform everything from extractions to alveoplasty to keep your smile healthy. With our oral surgery services, you can smile with confidence again!:
An extraction can be necessary for a variety of reasons. A tooth becoming infected to the point that rehabilitation is no longer viable can be grounds for an extraction. At our New Iberia office, we are able to efficiently perform routine extractions in a calming environment.
Your lips and tongue are important parts of your oral structure, affecting swallowing, speech and the position of your teeth. “Tongue Tie” is the condition of excessive tightness of the tissue connecting the underside of the tongue to the floor of their mouth, limiting the tongue’s range of motion. “Lip Tie” is when the tissue is too short between the lip and the upper jaw. In infants, these conditions can cause problems with breastfeeding. In young children, they can cause problems with speech. Treatment for these conditions is common and straight-forward, and early intervention is key.
Do you still have your wisdom teeth? Are they causing you problems? A complete removal is not always the best option. In some patients, the roots of the wisdom teeth in the lower jaw can become entangled in the nerves that supply feeling to your lips, chin, and tongue. In cases such as these, Dr. Charpentier may suggest having a coronectomy performed instead.
A coronectomy procedure allows for the removal of the wisdom teeth without the removal of the roots themselves. This is done by removing the crown of the tooth and leaving the roots intact. Coronectomy is a safer alternative when a surgical extraction runs the risk of causing nerve damage.
An alveoplasty surgery is performed when a patient’s jawbone needs to be smoothed or reshaped following the loss or extraction of one or more teeth. Alveoplasty can either be performed on its own, or as part of a tooth extraction. This surgery optimally shape your jaws to support dentures, minimizing your future discomfort and maximizing prosthesis retainment.
A tori, or torus mandibularis, is a bony growth that occurs in both the upper and lower jaw. They are often present near the bicuspids. Nine out of ten times they will occur on both sides of the mouth. Surgical removal can often be necessary for patient comfort, especially if the patient wears a dental appliance. Once these growths are removed, they will not return. Charpentier Family Dentistry is proud to offer Tori removal to our patients. Call our New Iberia office today to see if you are a good candidate.
A dental implant is a titanium post that functions as the root of a tooth would. It is surgically implanted into the patient’s jawbone beneath the gum line and a replacement tooth is screwed on top. Dental implants can be used as replacements for a single tooth, or multiple implants can be installed to securely support dentures. Implant retained denture solutions, also known as overdentures, are a popular alternative to conventional dentures.
At Charpentier Family Dentistry, we bring in a specialist once a month who is skilled in performing dental implant installation. After the preliminary surgical planning phase, our specialist can place your implants and temporary prosthesis in just one appointment.
